Happiness as a Service

Most wellbeing initiatives fail for the same reason: nobody owns them. The survey gets run once, the results get filed, and six months later nothing has changed.

Happiness as a Service fixes that. I bring the theory, the practical playbook, and something most consultants don't offer: accountability.

I built and ran a 50-person tech company where team happiness was measured monthly and consistently beat the industry average, and where that happiness translated into staff retention double the industry average and 100% client retention. Now I help other companies do the same.

Paul Nixon - Leadership Development Vodafone

I was absolutely thrilled to host Richard as he spoke at a Vodafone event about happiness at work. He is experienced and knowledgeable in the field and so offers credible insights and advice. Our public conversation, in front of 200 leaders, was very well received and thoroughly enjoyable. Richard is a naturally grounded speaker who communicates well and connects with his audience. I really hope we’re able to chat again in the future and strongly recommend him as one who can offer excellent insight into leading high-performing teams.

Which service do you need?

Every package delivers the same core outcome: a fully working workplace happiness strategy within 6 months. The difference between them is how involved I am.

  • Bronze: I guide. Your team builds and runs the programme with my direction.

  • Silver: I guide and train. Everything in Bronze, plus I train your managers to lead happier teams.

  • Fractional CHO: I lead. I run your wellbeing function, own the Happiness KPI, and answer for the results.

All packages start after your team has completed a half-day or full-day workshop (priced separately). This gets everyone aligned on the framework before we begin, so no consulting time is wasted on introductions.

For team leaders and HR managers in companies of up to ~20 people who want to build a Happiness at Work Policy themselves, with expert guidance.

You have a small team, limited budget, and someone internally who can drive this. What you need is direction, a sounding board, and someone to make sure it actually happens.

What a typical month looks like:

  • One 2-hour meeting with your team, your HR lead, or both, reviewing what you're measuring, what the data says, and what to do next

  • One meeting with a manager each month to work through a specific challenge

  • Up to 6 hours of email support, follow-up, and research between meetings

What you'll produce (with my guidance):

  • A written Happiness at Work Policy, built by your team so they own it

  • A wellbeing measurement system that becomes part of your monthly routine

  • A working programme of practical actions, reviewed and adjusted every month

My role: consultant and accountability buddy. Your team does the work. I make sure it's the right work, and that it doesn't quietly slip off the agenda after month two.

Delivery: fully remote. Commitment: 1 day per month. Minimum 6 months. Prerequisite: half-day or full-day team workshop (priced separately).

Happiness as a service - Bronze | Guide

For teams or small SMEs

For HR and management teams in SMEs of 20 to 100 people who want a company-wide Happiness at Work Policy and managers trained to deliver it.

At this size, happiness lives or dies with your managers. A policy on paper changes nothing if the people running teams day to day don't know how to apply it. Silver includes everything in Bronze, doubled in intensity, plus structured manager training.

What a typical month looks like:

  • Fortnightly meetings (1 to 2 hours) with your team or head of HR to review measurement, progress, and priorities

  • Fortnightly manager training sessions, building your managers' skills in the practices that most affect team happiness

  • Up to 12 hours of email support, follow-up, and research between meetings

  • One on-site visit every 6 months

What you'll produce (with my guidance):

  • A company-wide Happiness at Work Policy, built by your team

  • A wellbeing measurement system with quarterly reporting for leadership

  • Managers who understand the drivers of workplace happiness and how to act on them

My role: consultant, trainer, and accountability buddy. Your team owns the programme; your managers get the skills to run it; I keep everyone on track.

Delivery: remote, with one on-site visit every 6 months (included for UK and Spain; travel costs apply elsewhere).

Commitment: 2 days per month. Minimum 6 months. Prerequisite: half-day or full-day team workshop (priced separately).

Happiness as a service - Silver | Train

For SMEs

For companies where team happiness is part of this year's strategy, and who want someone senior to own it.

This is not more consulting days. It's a different relationship. As your fractional Chief Happiness Officer, I don't advise your wellbeing programme, I run it. I own the Happiness KPI, I report on it to your leadership team, and I'm accountable for moving it.

A full-time CHO would cost you €[80,000+] a year. This gives you the same ownership and senior experience for a fraction of that, one dedicated day every week.

What a typical month looks like:

  • A dedicated day each week working inside your business

  • Weekly team meetings to keep the programme moving

  • Individual meetings and one-to-one management training wherever they're needed

  • Ongoing support and guidance for HR and leadership

  • Quarterly on-site visits to work with your teams in person

What you get:

  • A full workplace happiness strategy, built with your leadership team and aligned to your business goals

  • A Happiness KPI that I own, measure, and report on

  • Executive-level involvement: I work directly with your leadership, your managers, and your teams

  • Change that is implemented, not just recommended

My role: I lead. You get a member of your leadership function who has done this before, having built a 50-person company where happiness was measured monthly and drove retention and performance.

Delivery: remote, with quarterly on-site visits (included for UK and Spain; travel costs apply elsewhere).

Commitment: 4 days per month. Minimum 12 months.

Prerequisite: half-day or full-day team workshop (priced separately).
